I bought this book at a book store in Lakeside, Pokhara. Before my trip to Nepal, I found Nimsdai on social media and I watched his documentary on Netflix to conquer the world’s 14 highest peaks in just over six month.
I read this book on my evening flight from Kathmandu to Kuala Lumpur. It is an inspiring, adrenaline packed memoir that chronicles Nimsdai; the former Gurkha and Special Force soldier’s incredible journey. His determination and resilience is amazing, combined with his love for his mom, his family, Nepal and its people. It’s just a really good story on how his determination and passion fueled his effort to achieve his dream, while lifting others at the same time.
Here’s the ultimate take out from the book
Lessons from the Death Zone
- Leadership isn’t always about what you want.
- The little things count most on the big mountains.
- Never underestimate the challenge ahead.
- Hope is God (to me, Pray to God for help)
- Turn a nightmare situation into something positive.
- A person’s true nature shows up in life-or-death situations.
- Give 100 per cent to the now
- Never lie. Never make excuses.
Recommended to anyone looking for motivation to overcome life’s obstacles. I wish I read this book before i gave up at Ghorepani hills, on my way to Annapurna Base Camp. But to my defense, it was a 12 hours hike, got injured, and decided I would like to live longer, and come back stronger next time.
