We travelled to Pokhara before starting our Annapurna Base Camp hike. We spent about 8 to 9 hours in a bus, with multiple stops along the way for lunch and toilet breaks. We travelled in coach bus equipped with reclining seats, USB plug and comfy seats.
In Pokhara, there are 3 well known Halal establishments according to Google Maps reviews and blogs reviews, and they all located on the Lakeside. Lakeside area is famous for its tourist attractions and basically where all tourists stayed in before or after their ABC trip. We stayed in New United Hotel, also well known among Malaysian who travel to Pokhara. We met many groups from Malaysia during our stay there.
Lazeez Halal Food
Lazeez, or can be translated to “delicious”, located about 5 minutes walk from our hotel. This restaurant a bit hidden from the main road, but I remember it is located in an alley next to Nomad (selling local crafts) and ATM machine. On few occassions, we ordered Mandy and Biryani, mutton and chicken. Personally, I prefer their Tandoori Chicken.
Pokhara Halal Food
Pokhara Halal Food also may not visible from the main road, apart from their small signboard that reads “Pokhara Halal Food”. This place is about 3 minutes walk from Lazeez Halal Food. If I remember correctly, it’s right after House of Cashmere. Here, we usually eat Biryani Chicken and Curry Mutton.
Bama Tandoors
We visited this place once for lunch, to celebrate my birthday. This place a bit far, so it would take another 5 minutes walk from Pokhara Halal Food (so about 15 minutes walk from New United Hotel). This place received high rating for its setting and ambience and usually visited at night. On that day, we were their first customer. The place is big and well decorated. I don’t have personal preference here, but taste-wise, it’s delicious.
Price and Opinion
All these restaurants will serve in two size, half or full. Personally, for us, Full is for 2 people. So we would order different menu at Half size. Price a bit expensive compare to Kathmandu, so on average, me and my wife will spend about MYR50.00 (about USD12.00) on one sitting. For drinks, usually they serve hot tea, coffee, hot lemon & honey. For cold drinks, just bottled mineral water and carbonated drinks in glass bottle kept in fridge. Once we ask for ice cube, but apparently such thing are not the norm here.
In Pokhara Halal Food and Lazeez, they are very happy to see Malaysian. One time Lazeez owner boast about having Amy Search visited their restaurant few years back. Also because they always receive Malaysian customer. At Bama Tandoor, the settings are professional and we were treated very well, like fine dining experience. In general, we are happy with these three places. We eat well and make friends.
