Al Madina Halal Foods is the only restaurant we go for lunch and dinner as this place is only 5 minutes walk from our hotel (Skyline Hotel).
Besides, we tried looking for any halal restaurant nearby, but couldn’t find any. This restaurant may not be visible from the main street, so at first you may need Google Maps guidance. It is located in an alley. There’s a small surau nearby.
Recommended
- Buffalo or Chicken Biryani Rice (Buff in menu is for buffalo)
- Chicken & Fish Tandoori
- Biryani Mutton (mutton portion a bit small), so i prefer buffalo biryani. But the mutton taste good.
- Kebabs are ok.
The portion in the menu is displayed Half and Full. If you’re going for single meal like Biryani rice, order Full. The portion is big, almost for two people. But because we walk all day long, so we eat a lot too. But if you’re ordering multiple menu, go for Half.
Condiments are the green chutney / sauce and curd chutney. I grew a liking for the green chutney, but a bit easy with curd chutney. Curd chutney is good for digestion, but I’m trying to avoid any problem.
Drinks
Plain water is ready on the table, FOC. Colder bottled mineral water available. The sodas are Coca Cola, Sprite and Fanta, but it is very carbonated so I try to avoid this drink the best I can.
Al Madina is famous among Malaysian traveller to Kathmandu, judging by the number of stickers on the window display of this shop. we put ours too.
On our last day in Kathmandu, someone told us there’s another Halal chinese food about 2 km away. We tried looking for it but never find it anyway. So its official our official halal food restaurant throughout our stay in Kathmandu is Al Madina Halal Foods.
