Automotive photography is a genre of photography that focuses on capturing the beauty and power of cars. Automotive photography can be a great way to share your passion for cars with others.
There are many different ways to approach automotive photography. Some photographers prefer to focus on the technical aspects of cars, such as their engines and performance. Others prefer to focus on the aesthetic aspects of cars, such as their design and styling. Still others prefer to capture the emotion of cars, such as the excitement of driving or the sense of freedom that comes from owning a car.
In the past, I’ve work with some car owners in Labuan to photograph their cars. Often, my equipment are simple. A camera with kit lens, a remote flash, a reflector and plenty of available light. The understanding of how light compliments the shape, the concept and the theme of the photoshoot is important to deliver what I really want or what the car “want” to be looked like.
Though I myself can be considered as automotive enthusiast, this genre is the most hard to perform. To produce a good car photo, you need good lighting, and in this case, you will need a lot of artificial lighting to highlight every aspect that will give a good result. Still, if you’re to settle with limited equipment, plan wisely. And clean your subject.
