Street

For this series, I shot with Minolta MD 28mm f2.8, coupled with adapter to fit into the A-mount of my Sony Alpha 200. I also use the kit lens and sometimes, the telezoom.

In doing street photography, there are few things that I will consider before going out there and face the people on the street with my camera.

1. Minimize the camera. The lesser accessories, the more invisible you are.

2. I don’t spread my elbow when I decide to take picture. I will bring my elbow closer to my body so it’s not obvious that I’m trying to take picture.

3. Dress like everyone will dress on that street on that particular day. Fancy dress indicates you’re a tourist and people will keep looking at you. Too formal, i.e. wearing vest will make people aware of you.  In a relax & controlled environment, people are more aware to their surroundings, and that’s why I will try to not make myself too obvious to their view.

4. Observe over and over again. It is never about that first shot. The more I know about the subject, the better my understanding about them, the better I decide what kind of picture I want to make out of them.

5. When people aware I am taking picture of them, I took my eyes off the viewfinder, flash a smile and show them thumbs up. If they look annoyed, I rather walk out of the scene than trying to negotiate. There is always next time.
