Early this year I pledge to work on my personal project of automotive photography. Few shots has been done in the first leg of the series of photoshoot that will take at least 3 months time to complete.

Right now, I already started with Mitsubishi Lancer 2008. The owner is a former classmate back then at UiTM KK, Sabah. More session to come with new planning and arrangement has been done.

I only got my kit lens as I’ve left the rest in the trunk of Syed Nasir’s car. That was a bad decision, considering that I need a 50mm to take pictures under a poor lighting. Pumped the ISO to 800 and tried not to get possibility of blurry images – but that’s what I got anyway. On the second location, the main target was to get the picture into frame with the impressive background of the lights on the ceiling. There is no other place with such setup in Labuan but Financial Park. I guess most of them were intended to get a composition like the above – except that they’re way better than me. Mine, I think my camera was tilted way too senget lah.

So I decided to make a panning shots and do some lens rotation experiment. So here you go.

#1 Honda Stream – I tried to lock the focus on the Honda emblem, but I couldn’t.

#2 – Honda Accord – This was terribly blur, and the lights reflection are messy.

#3 Toyota Fortuner – Somehow I lost the bumper and some part of the front tyre…

#4 Toyota Fortuner – It’s like this moster is hitting the light trails.

#5 – Honda CIvic – This is a result of rotating your lens on a 1/3 shutter speed and that’s why I got the swirling motion from the center of the hood. However, look at the background. And this time I think I got the Honda emblem locked on focus!

#6 Honda Accord – Another images resulted from lens rotation experiment. It’s more visible now, as the centre of swirling took place a bit above the right headlight. Yes, I nailed the Honda emblem and the plate number. (shoot! I should blur the plate number…)

#7 Honda Accord – I guess this was the best of all shots I took that night. Though I think the reflection on the car looks distracting, but I guess that alone gave some effect to show that the car’s moving. Anyway, I love the tyre.

We finished the session around 10 pm. At that point of time, I’m glad that with the kit lens alone, the 18-70mm performed impressively (in my opinion). I decided to shoot in RAW since I can adjust the exposure in Adobe CS3.
