Pocket full of sunshine

Finally its stop raining.

Hana survived the cold, but not her father – whom apparently sneeze like a cannon. Since Friday, all I can do were just watching old DVDs, surf Internet, make more friends in FlickR, update mylabuanisland blog, anything that has nothing to do with the outside world.

The cold and freezing weekend made me glued to my laptop, scouring every corner of the place we call Internet looking for anything to add value to my photography knowledge. Some people told me I do magic with my pictures, but I dare not take that as a compliment. It’s more like a reminder that I am not that good, it’s just a luck, merely a coincidence. From what I read, photography is 99% knowledge, 1% luck. So far, I depend on the whole 1% of luck and merely 10% of knowledge. The remaining still there, and I need to find it.

She smiles a lot – and sometimes look at me in the face and mumbling something that I wish I could understand.

I keep telling myself that I need to save more money for Hana’s college fund. I’ve opted for life insurance and SSPN. That means more money, and fortunately it’s still affordable now. However, lovely wife asked me if I ever have a thought of doing photography business full time. That’s something that I have been thinking for a year now. TO be frank, that is what I want to be. Sure, I WANT to be a photographer by profession, but the question I keep asking myself is DO I HAVE WHAT IT TAKES TO BE A PHOTOGRAPHER? I think that’s the barrier that keep me to the ground lah, because I don’t want to join the bandwagon of instant-fulltime-photographer. I am in process of collecting materials (just in case someday I am really qualified to take a job from client) and learning.

Hana with her aunty. That’s not her birthday cake, but my sister. Happy belated birthday to you.

By the way, did anyone notice that camera is no longer called camera in blogosphere? It’s heavily segregated to PnS and dSLR. Say, ” I got my dSLR with me last night, so I took the chance to take pictures from the eventormy PnS doesn’t perform up to my expectation – I can’t wait to get my dSLR“. As far as I concern, both are the same thing and it operate the same way. Press the shutter and you got the picture. As long as you adhere to the basic rules of photography, the outcome will be the same.

Im thinking of getting a compact camera that I can bring comfortly in my pocket. I love taking picture of Hana, but to bring out my A200 everytime to take her picture is such a …….. job. When that time comes, A200 will get a special treatment as it will ‘work’ only during assignment.Besides, I felt awkward to bring that bulky camera slinging on my shoulder. Kamu tidak rasa berat kah bawa dSLR ke sana ke mari walaupun sekadar ambil gambar suka – suka?

This is not a rebel post.

Till then.

I agree on your “instant-fulltime-photographer-on-their-first-dslr-purchase” statement.

In fact recently the number of wedding studios n so called “professional” photographers that pop up here in KK are all very “suspicious” in my opinion.

But make no mistake Saiful, I consider myself a noob photographer (that’s why i dont take wedding photos… i rather not risk screwing up people’s wedding day) & I’d “cari makan” if the tool permits me to. I mean why should it stop u right? :)

U take alot of photos n obviously know ur equipment well, so i urge u to do it as part time anyways.

Thanks for the encouragement Julian, I will try to focus on preparation to be a part-timer.

Thank you for agree with me (though I believe someone will come and spit their anger on this post) on the instant-photogs-thing. By the way, why everyone dive straight into wedding photography? There are plenty of field which required photography service.

The wedding studios shows that they’re determined to do business. But if somehow it is self-acclaimed “professional”, then I couldn’t resist but to be in suspicious mode as well.

Thanks for the response, Julian. :)

just to answer that last 1, coz it seems there’s a big demand for it.

many times while handing my name card out (which states that im a freelance photographer)i think 6/10 times people will ask if i shoot weddings.

    *shrugs*

I used to bring my compact camera everywhere i go..:D

Btw, i don’t want to comment anything on the instant-photogs-thigy. As far as i know, being a photographer isn’t that easy.

But anyway, you still a good photographer as well. Just don’t think too much about what other people might think about u. Everyone has their own aims, right?

    So, Good Luck dude! :)

Julian : Yes, I am glad that people now appreciate the profession and the fact that some people can take a very good wedding photos.

Sabrina : Yes, it’s not easy. Try architecture. Try photojournalism. Try sport. Try food photography. I have to admit it’s all not easy and it’s not merely about expensive equipment or the latest products in the market. Thanks for the compliment.
